How To Look Younger Naturally

Our ambition is to mature like a fine wine. So we asked dermatologists, nutritionists, and makeup artists for their tips on how to have younger-looking skin, voluminous hair, eat well, and more so you can look and feel your best for years to come. That’s fantastic!

Smile, wide

Young, middle-aged, and elderly people were asked to guess the ages of models with various facial expressions based on thousands of photographs. The most accurate results were obtained with neutral expressions, while fearful expressions made subjects appear older; happy faces were rated as younger than they actually were.

Eat more grapes

Sorbitol, the sugar found in grapes, berries, plums, and pears, is a humectant, or a substance that attracts water when applied to the skin, allowing it to absorb and retain moisture.

Touch up your hair

Our hair changes as we age. “It often becomes coarser in texture and drier,” says Jenna Mast, a hairstylist. Heat styling can harm your hair, so try air drying and using an iron only around your face. Use deep conditioning treatments on a regular basis, whether you wash your hair at home or at a salon, to combat dryness.

Frame your face

Maintaining a well-groomed and shaped brow provides a frame for your face and draws attention to your eyes.

Cleanse and moisturize regularly

Cleansing and moisturizing help to protect and maintain skin health; however, avoid using regular soap, which can be drying to older skin. Instead, use a cleanser that gently cleanses without removing the skin’s natural moisture. Skin toners, especially those with astringent or alcohol base, should be avoided. Morning and night, apply a good moisturizer.

Conceal your problem areas

Avoid tight-fitting or crew-neck tops that squeeze skin upward if you have a wrinkly neck or jowls. A shirt collar worn over a round-necked jersey is preferable. If you have a large belly, wear dark-colored shirts.

Give yourself a hand or two

A study found that people could correctly guess the ages of women by looking at their hands. Use a good hand cream on a regular basis, preferably one with SPF for the daytime. Exfoliate your hands on a regular basis to brighten them up: Scrub your hands with a soft toothbrush after combining sea salt and lemon juice.

Eat more greens and reds

Vitamin K, found in kale and other green vegetables, aids in blood coagulation, reducing the severity of bruising. Lycopene in tomatoes provides powerful UV ray protection to the skin. According to one study, eating fruits and vegetables improved skin complexion.

Wear less makeup

Choose radiant hues that mimic the look of natural youth instead of heavy makeup, advises makeup artist and What Not to Wear star Carmindy. “As we age, our skin loosens and becomes less taut, so the more makeup we apply, the more it can move, settle, and travel,” she explains. “Less makeup adheres much better to mature skin, allowing you to look fresh all day.”

Eat oily fish

Salmon and other oily fish are high in DMAE (dimethylaminoethanol), a compound that improves muscle tone and is a key ingredient in high-priced “mature” skin creams. Eating oily fish twice a week provides the same advantages.

Exercise four or more times per week

According to one study, regular exercise can help to slow the aging process. When you exercise most days of the week, you will prevent muscle loss and sleep better. Combine cardiovascular exercise for the heart and lungs, resistance exercise for the muscles, and flexibility stretching.

Wear the right bra

We are all affected by gravity, but properly fitting undergarments can help shape a figure into a more youthful silhouette. “According to pop culture research, over 80% of women are wearing the wrong size bra,” says style expert Sharon Haver, founder of FocusOnStyle.com. Visit a lingerie store to ensure you’re wearing the correct size and style for your bust shape, as well as the appropriate amount of coverage and support.

Drink more water

Because our bodies are mostly water, and our skin is the largest organ, we must stay hydrated to avoid it looking dry and dull and creating wrinkles. “The more hydrated you are, the plumper, subtler, and younger your skin will appear,” says Erin Palinski-Wade, RD, CDE, author of Belly Fat Diet For Dummies. “In addition, staying hydrated can boost energy levels and fight cravings, making it easier to stick to your exercise goals and healthy eating habits.”
